In accession to his fourteen solo recordings, Jerry has played on more than 1,600 albums. As a sideman, he has recorded with artists as diverse as Garth Brooks, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Phish, Dolly Parton, Susan Ashton, Paul Simon, Mumford and Sons, Keb’ Mo’, Ricky Skaggs, Elvis Costello, Tommy Emmanuel, and Johnny Mathis, as well as performing on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack.

Jerry has collaborated with different groups including The Whites, J.D. Crowe and the New South, The Country Gentlemen, Strength in Numbers, and Elvis Costello’s “Sugar Canes”.

Jerry produced a number of records, including some at Sugar Hill Records. He oversaw albums by Alison Krauss, the Del McCoury Band, Maura O’Connell, Jesse Winchester, and the Nashville Bluegrass Band, The Earls of Leicester, The Steep Canyon Rangers. Along with Aly Bain, he serves as Music Director of the popular BBC Television series, “Transatlantic Sessions”.

Since 1998, Calvin has been a member of Alison Krauss and Union Station which features Jerry, touring extensively and playing on a series of platinum-selling albums.

Although he’s a gifted multi-instrumentalist, Jerry Douglas has become world-renowned for his mastery of the resonator guitar a/k/a the Dobro. In fact, James Taylor told Guitar Player magazine that Douglas is “the Muhammad Ali of the Dobro.”

With friends like that, it’s no wonder that a whole lot of other friends would hop on board Jerry’s latest album, Traveler, lending vocal and instrumental support to the 11-song collection that’s due for release on eOne Music on June 26.

The liner notes for Traveler, the follow-up to his 2009 holiday collection, Merry Christmas!, read like a who’s who of popular American music, with guest vocals from Eric Clapton, Marc Cohn, Keb’ Mo’, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Mumford & Sons and Paul Simon. Also along for the ride: Sam Bush (harmony vocals and mandolin), Dr. John (piano), Béla Fleck (banjo), Omar Hakim (drums), Viktor Krauss (bass), and Del McCoury (harmony vocals), among others.

“This record is the culmination of a long career spent making friends and lending my sound to theirs,” says the three-time CMA and 11-time ACM Musician of the Year. “This time my friends have come on board to lend their voices to me.”

Recorded in Nashville, New Orleans, New York, and Banbury, U.K., the album spotlights versions of Paul Simon’s classics “The Boxer” and “American Tune.”

In addition to four original instrumental tunes from Jerry, he also offers up his first solo lead vocal on record for a rendition of Leadbelly’s “On a Monday,” (a prison tune Johnny Cash later reworked as “I Got Stripes”).

“Little Martha” was the only Allman Brothers Band track written solely by the group leader and partial namesake Duane Allman.

The tune first featured on the final studio track on the Allman Brothers Band’s fourth album, Eat a Peach, issued in 1972. The track was recorded in October 1971, a few weeks before Duane Allman’s death in a motorcycle accident.

Allman’s original recording of the song is a bouncy fingerstyle acoustic guitar instrumental duet with minimal accompaniment. Allman and bandmate Dickey Betts played the tune on 6-string guitars using open Eb tuning.
